Meet Grey: Foil Me's Most-Loved Brushes Just Got a New Look
The Tone Me and Balayage Me brushes, two absolute favourites from the Knobel Collection, are now available in a stunning new grey colourway. Same game-changing performance, fresh new look.
If you've ever picked up a Foil Me brush and thought, "this has genuinely changed how I work" - you're not alone. Since launching the Knobel Collection, the Tone Me and Balayage Me brushes have become cult tools in salons across Australia and beyond. And now? They come in grey. Here's everything you need to know about the new colourway, what makes these brushes so special, and why grey might just be your new favourite shade.
The Knobel Collection: a love story between colourists and their tools
The Knobel Collection wasn't born in a boardroom. It started with a conversation. Almost two years ago, Foil Me's own Australian Ambassador Sheree Knobel (of Bixie Colour, and Redken educator) came to founders Emily and Ili Ciardiello with a challenge: design brushes that would genuinely defy colourists' expectations and make life behind the chair easier.
What followed was a painstaking, multi-chapter journey from concept to creation, and the results speak for themselves.
From prototype to pink (and now to grey): the story behind the brushes
Sheree, Emily, and Ili map out exactly what colourists need, beginning with the specialist toning brush. Ili finds a 3D plastics creator in Adelaide; three months later, the first handle prototype exists.
Three factories are interviewed. Vegan bristle options are tested for softness and efficiency. The first completed brush arrives. Bristle thickness isn't quite right, so the head is redesigned entirely.
Box design begins. The cardboard quality isn't good enough, so a custom sample is requested and approved. The new prototype arrives. Bristles are perfect, but the handle tip is too round. Back to the drawing board for the final prototype.
The finishing touches: the dot on the 'i' in the logo is hand-painted. The original pink shade is refined to something lighter, more refined. Foil packaging is chosen. Photos approved. The finished product ships.
The result? Quickly labelled a #gamechanger by colourists everywhere. Luxurious vegan bristles. Signature grip and embossing on the handles. 100% recyclable, brushes and packaging alike.
Introducing grey: the new colourway for two fan favourites
The pink brushes have a cult following. The silver-bristled edition has its admirers. And now, the grey colourway brings a sleek, understated sophistication to the two brushes colourists reach for most - Tone Me and Balayage Me.
This isn't just a cosmetic update. The same obsessively engineered performance is inside every grey handle. This is purely about giving you options that suit your aesthetic and your kit.
Tone Me
The toning brush that redefined the category. Extra 20% bristles and a wider brush head mean faster, more even toner application. Perfect coverage, every time.
Balayage Me
A paddle and brush in one. Longer, thicker bristles hold significantly more product, eliminating the constant back-and-forth to the bowl that slows every balayage service down.
Why these two brushes, and why now?
Tone Me and Balayage Me aren't just popular. They're workhorses. They're the brushes that earn their place in a colourist's kit and never get replaced. Launching a new colourway for these two specifically is a nod to just how beloved they've become, and a chance for stylists who've been holding out to fall in love with their kit all over again.
Grey also feels right for where hair colour is going. The era of cool, lived-in, tonal work means the tools on your bench should feel just as considered as the colours going on the hair. A grey Tone Me sitting next to your foils? That's a bench worth photographing.
