Recycling with Foil Me

Marked by more than a billion people participating every year, Earth Day on April 22nd is widely recognised as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.

In 2021,the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day.

When it comes to the environmental impact of our foils, we often get asked – are Foil Me’s foils made from 100% recycled aluminium?

Like ALL aluminium foil, Foil Me's foils are made from a percentage of recycled aluminium; this percentage fluctuates slightly with every order due to the amount of raw and recycled materials available at the time of production.

ALL aluminium foil is produced this way. It is impossible for aluminium foil to be made from 100% recycled aluminium as the foil’s physical property will be changed to the point where it will crumble and not be a viable option for use as a hair foil 🤯

Interested in digging a little further?
Mixed foil from post and pre-consumer scrap metals can only be used for aluminium alloy die-castings, aluminium alloy bars for construction, engine cases, etc and the quality of the foil is dependent on the aluminium alloy chemical composition of Fe, Mg or Zn elements.

Another question we get asked is if you can recycle Foil Me's products?

Yes you can! Not only do we love seeing your creations made with Foil Me’s foils, we adore seeing our foil being recycled.

Did you know that aluminium foil can be recycled infinitely? That means that your can of soda at lunch could have been made from recycled foil from last year!

If you want to learn more about recycling our foils, watch the video below.

Our amazing team member Chelsea is not only our talented graphic designer, at our HQ she is known (and proudly owns) the title as our resident ‘Bin Lady’.

♻️ Instead of throwing your foils in the bin, here are the simple steps you can take to help the environment every day.

1. Wash the foil thoroughly
2. Roll several sheets into a ball that is of a tennis ball size (or larger)
3. Place into a recycling bin

Presto! You are now one step closer to becoming a 'Bin Lady' like Chelsea!

Wondering where your foil will end up?
Any foil you recycle will be made into aluminium products, but not necessarily hair foil 🥰 How great is that!

"But what about recycling your brushes?" we hear you ask!

When your brush has created a multitude of striking styles and is ready to be replaced, don’t just throw the brush in the bin – place them in the recycling with our foils, because our brushes are made from polypropylene, abbreviated as PP, which is a recyclable thermoplastic polymer widely used in many different products. PP’s resin identification code is 5, so it can be recycled. Yes, you read that right, they are 100% recyclable! Bristles and all!

Another recycling bonus - when you reach for a new Knobel brush to add to your artisanal arsenal, once you have swooned over the stunning packaging, you can also place it into your recycling outlet.

If you need some more sustainability inspo for your workplace or home, here are some ways we try to be eco-conscious:

🌱 We are a paperless company as much as possible. We use small white boards for our daily notes and to-do lists instead of notebooks, and email all of our Foil Me movers' invoices.

🌱 We use recycled card for our Foil Me branded boxes.

🌱 We use recycled card for our brochures/information pamphlets.

🌱 Our office utilises recycling bins.

🌱 Our factory in China recycles all of our excess foil cut-offs from production.

🌱 We are a proud partner with Green Salon Collective - the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland wide. With their recycling system, Green Salon Collective will recycle almost every single piece of "rubbish" and turn it into something new. This includes recycling Foil Me, but they also assist with recycling and recovering hair, and recycling empty colour tubes, chemicals, PPE, plastic & paper.

We will always be transparent with you regarding recycling and our products, so if any of our Foil Me movers have any more questions, please email us hello@foilme.com.au or contact us on 0423 403 899 to chat!
